SINGER YMA SUMAC DIES

Yma Sumac [IPA: /iːˈmə suːˈmæk/] (September 13, 1922 – November 1, 2008) was a noted Peruvian soprano. In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music and became an international success, based on the merits of her extreme vocal range, which was said to be “well over four octaves” and was sometimes claimed to span even five octaves at her peak.

AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC LEGEND ODETTA DIES

Odetta (December 31 1930 - December 2 2008) was an African-American singer, actress, guitarist, songwriter, and a human rights activist, often referred to as “The Voice of the Civil Rights Movement.” Her musical repertoire consists largely of American folk music, blues, jazz, and spirituals. An important figure in the American folk music revival of the 1950s and ’60s, she was a formative influence on dozens of artists, including Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Janis Joplin.

Edward Samuel “Ted” Rogers, Jr., OC, BA, LL.B, D.Sc (May 27, 1933 – December 2, 2008) was the President and CEO of Rogers Communications Inc., and the fourth richest person in Canada in terms of net worth. His father Edward S. Rogers, Sr. is regarded as the founder of the company, although the radio station that he founded is now owned by another Canadian company competitor Astral Media.

RAPPER MC BREED DIES AT AGE 37

Eric Breed (June 12, 1971 - November 22, 2008), better known as MC Breed was a Flint, Michigan-based rapper best known for his singles “Ain’t No Future in Yo Frontin”, which peaked at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Gotta Get Mine”, featuring 2Pac, that made it to #6 on the Hot Rap Singles.
